Barbados, June 22, 2024 – West Indies recorded their first win in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup, defeating the United States by 9 wickets at the Kensington Oval.

Opting to bowl first, the men in maroon restricted the USA to a modest total of128/10 in 19.5 overs, thanks to a career-best performance from Roston Chase. The all-rounder claimed 3/19, supported by Andre Russell’s 3/31 and Alzarri Joseph’s 2/31, effectively stifling the American batting lineup.

Chasing 126, Shai Hope, replacing regular opener Brandon King, launched an aggressive assault. He amassed an unbeaten 82 off just 39 balls, decorated with 4 fours and 8 sixes. Hope’s fireworks were complemented by Johnson Charles, who contributed 15 runs before falling to left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh in the 7th over. Nicholas Pooran then joined Hope, and together they dismantled the USA’s bowling attack. Milind Kumar's 9th over proved costly, conceding 22 runs, with Hope smashing three consecutive sixes.

Pooran finished unbeaten on 27 off 12 balls, sealing the victory in style. Harmeet Singh (1/18) was the only wicket-taker for the USA. With this win, West Indies remain in contention for the semifinals, while the USA, having lost their first two Super 8 fixtures, are out of the running.
