The England Men's selection panel has named a 14-player squad for the first two Test matches of the upcoming three-match series against the West Indies, set to start at Lord’s on Wednesday, 10 July 2024. This series will be especially significant as it marks James Anderson's final Test at Lord’s before his retirement.

England Men's Test Squad:

  • Ben Stokes (Captain)
  • James Anderson (First Test only)
  • Gus Atkinson
  • Shoaib Bashir
  • Harry Brook
  • Zak Crawley
  • Ben Duckett
  • Dan Lawrence
  • Dillon Pennington
  • Ollie Pope
  • Matthew Potts
  • Joe Root
  • Jamie Smith
  • Chris Woakes

New Faces and Key Inclusions:

Nottinghamshire seamer Dillon Pennington and Surrey batter Jamie Smith are set to make their Test debuts. Pennington has been in excellent form in the Vitality County Championship Division One, taking 29 wickets at an average of 23.03. Jamie Smith, a right-hand batter, has amassed 507 runs at an average of 76.93, playing a crucial role in Surrey's successful campaign.

Surrey seamer Gus Atkinson, who was part of the squad for the Test tour of India earlier this year, is the other uncapped player in the squad.

Return of Chris Woakes:

Chris Woakes returns to the Test squad for the first time since July 2023. Woakes was named Player of the Series during the Ashes series against Australia, and his experience will be crucial for England in this series.

Farewell to a Legend:

The first Test at Lord’s will be a special occasion as it will be James Anderson's final Test before retirement. Since his debut in 2003, Anderson has been a cornerstone of England's bowling attack. Rob Key, ECB Managing Director for England Men's Cricket, stated, "The first Test of the summer is always a special moment, but it will be extra poignant with it being Jimmy’s last Test before he retires. He has given everything to the sport since his Test debut in 2003. We all would like to wish him well as he walks out at Lord’s for the last time for England.”

Test Series Schedule:

1. 1st Test: England vs. West Indies, 10-14 July 2024, Lord’s Cricket Ground, London

2. 2nd Test: England vs. West Indies, 18-22 July 2024, Trent Bridge, Nottingham

3. 3rd Test: England vs. West Indies, 26-30 July 2024, Edgbaston, Birmingham

Rob Key also expressed excitement for the upcoming series, stating, "We are looking forward to getting the season underway against a strong West Indies side in what will be an excellent Test series.”
