South Africa have secured their place in the grand finale of the Men's T20 World Cup 2024 with a commanding nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan at Tarouba. The Proteas showcased their bowling might, skittling out Afghanistan for a mere 56 runs in 12 overs.

Afghanistan's captain Rashid Khan opted to bat first, hoping to set a challenging target. However, Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada had other plans, dismantling the Afghan top order in the powerplay. Jansen's crucial strikes earned him figures of 3/16. The middle order collapsed under pressure from Tabraiz Shamsi and Anrich Nortje. Shamsi's spin decimated the tail, finishing with 3/6, while Nortje's express pace yielded 2/7. Rabada chipped in with 2/14, completing a dominant bowling performance.

In reply, Afghanistan's bowlers started strong, with Fazalhaq Farooqi dismissing Quinton de Kock for 5. However, Reeza Hendricks and captain Aiden Markram steadied the chase. Hendricks played a composed innings, scoring 29 off 25 balls, including three fours and the only six of the match. Markram remained unbeaten on 23 from 21 deliveries, guiding South Africa to victory in just 8.3 overs.

This triumph marks a historic moment for South Africa, securing their first semifinal win in eight World Cup attempts across formats. They now await the result of the India vs. England semifinal to determine their opponent for Saturday's final in Barbados. South Africa's unbeaten run in the tournament continues, while Afghanistan's impressive campaign, featuring wins over New Zealand and Australia, comes to an end.
